How can schools use filmmaking

Video Media is something that influences the world. Be it TV, movies, trailers, or any thing of the kind, it influences lives all over the globe. On another side, something that sets our world’s future are school. Schools either create a better future or not; all that schools do is prepare the youth to (in the future) become leaders, business men and women, to be influential, and to carry on what they have learned from us. Wouldn’t it be great if the two (schools and video media) would work together? This is not something that would be hard to do in fact the steps to join film making and school together are easy, and come with great benefits such as: good learning time for the students, teamwork in action, mighty tool of influence, recorded events of what was done, and creativity flourishing. Truly, young people have very creative minds, and this opens a great door for media. Here are what any school could have that would enable them to use this form of learning:

a camera/a computer/a editing program/and that’s it.

What are the steps for making a movie?

To make a video, you have to go through a few simple steps:

First of all, you need an idea. Every single movie happens because its producer had an idea to do something. And using this with a school would be no exception. Have you ever heard the phrase: “It all starts in the mind”? With film-making, you start thinking on what you want to do, and once you have a good idea you start the work. The second step is to gather what you need. Be it props, people to help you, actors, or anything you need; you have to make sure that you get it before you start filming so that you won’t cause problems when you are doing so. Third is filming the movie itself. Most of the emotion you want to put into the video comes from how you film it. Where, how, and when you can all influence what your video will look like, and that will cause the greatest effect in the movie you are creating. Fourth thing to do is to edit what you have gotten until now. You have now to actually make the video, and pt everything together, just like music and making it flow well. The fifth and last step is adding the cherry on top of the cake; which most times isn’t necessary, but if you do it, it goes into another level. This is of course adding music to your video, and not just any type of music, a soundtrack. Give the video something that can accompany it throughout the whole thing, and you will notice that it will grasp the attention of viewers much more quickly. And that is it, once you have completed theses things you will be good to go onto your next project. and always remember to have a creative mind that will allow you to think further than expectations and make some truly impressive things!

The Hiding Place

“The Hiding Place” is the life of Corrie Ten Boom told through a book; but, you can only put a certain amount of emotion into pages. A life filled with all sorts of excitation, the life of someone who could have lived happily, but chose to help others, and gave up her freedom and rest because of her love.

Corrie and her family were gained their life by clock making during the events of World War II, and they chose to help those who were being persecuted by the Nazi. Just by helping those who were in need of help, the hiding place was created so that in any case that they had to hide. And even though there could is great emotion while Corrie was helping others, there is much more when she is arrested and taken to concentration camps and forced to work. She faces and endures various trials and after all that, freedom can be found once more.

I have done a drawing on my thought of the book. It depicts what I would say would be an apocalyptic world on the outside of the Ten Boom property and how peaceful it was inside the house. This made me think on how good it would have been for the refugees when they found a place like the hiding place. The happiness they would feel, because the outside world was in chaos and men were all against each other, while inside the house there was peace and tranquility.

The Diary of Anne Frank

The Diary of Anne Frank By Anne Frank herself is an incredible book that tells tales of Anne’s life during the period of World War II. It all starts with a change of life in Anne’s life; before the war there were no problems between Jews and Germans, but after Hitler arose to power much changed. She and her family have to run away from their house and live a new and different type of life, hidden from everyone and everything. They live in a secret hiding place behind a friends house, and they depend on the favors and helps of many people to get them through the war. Many things cannot be afforded by them, and they live a life of scarcity. Times come and times go and eventually they are found and send to concentration camps and faced with many trials that only God could help them with. Unfortunately many loved ones don’t make it through these trials, and yet Anne’s diary influences many lives until today, and it makes us think and reflect on how things could have been different, how could the holocaust not have happened, and what would of happened if Anne were never to journal, never to be born the way she was born?

I made a drawing describing what most impacted me from this book. It made me question if anyone was truly free? In one side Anne was captured and it shows the sadness of the life of someone who was captured. All the culture of the people who had been captured had also been lost. And on the other side it shows the irony of someone who had been free at those times. Irony because, even though they could have been away from prison, they could have been prisoners to something much bigger. Imprisoned by a general mindset, stuck to obeying what one man would say.

Was anyone truly free?

The Giver

The Giver, by Lois Lowry. Do not mistake perfection with emptiness. The message of the book is deep and touches many people. It is claddified as a Utopian and Dystopian book. It also contains a great plot for the story and it truly makes you identify and become used to the characters. It is only one of the whole series of the Giver, and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series because it truly is good. There are some very amazing comebacks and surprises that you will find in this book, even though it is supposed to be a perfect society.

There was a project of a drawing we had to do with hidden meanings and happennings of the book. The image will be at the end of the post. I think it will be intresting for those who have already read the book to see if they can understand some of what is there, and if you have not read this book, I super reomend it to all types of readers because it has a good message behind the book’s story and is full of all types of emotion!

This was done as a group project with Pedro.(who is in my class):

Lord of the Flies

We had to read this book for our English class this year. This book is a dystonia type book. I think that the book was good; however, it took a while to get me excited to read(honestly). The good thing is that after a while it does truly get interesting and captures your attention. The book is basically a group of boys who crashed on a deserted island, who struggle to survive, and then they are faced with all types of problems(such as leadership, crowd control, and fear problems). You will truly be surprised by what happens with some of the characters and with the story itself!

I have made a book commercial to get you interested for it:

Encouragment Week

It is incredible to have this week in school every year. Every time we have it it is incredible to see others reactions when they get their gifts, and their happiness. It is very good to get things and have the oportunity to share with all your friends and teachers. Another good thing this week was listening to Pr. Glenn during our second period. His ministry in our lives was simply amazing, and how he explained to us the book of Ecclesiastes was incredible! Today (Friday) is the last day of the encouragment week and I simply cannot wait to see all tof the reactions during our combined lunch, and for students to figure out who had them is a unforgetable happenning.

My top five things for History

05) video’s: video’s helped greatly with learning this class; they are jammed with information and have all sort of teachers and sources they come from.

04) eight-page books: Eight-page books are great forms of summarizing the important points of the chapters.

03) timeline: Timelines are the best way of getting a visual point of what happenned and when it happenned.

02) blogg: Bloggs were my second favorite part of this semester because they are good to remember what we learned. Bloggs always helped to remind us of the things we learned, but in a better form because we can look back and remind ourselves of what we wrote and learned.

01) Presentation: Presentations were by far the best form of  learning because they are awsome for learning,( because you need to persue what you are looking for and make your conclusions based on the sources that you read) because they strenghthen your want for knowledge, (when you start to learn and find out things it starts to be hard to stop it) and because it is great to help friendships and make new friends( when you work with a partner on a presentation you always end up having fun time and memories that you will keep to yourself).

Urban Living in the 1800s

2) I used to live in my old cranky wood farm, but I heard of the great oportunities there were in the city. WhenI moved here everything was diferent. My old house was big with a shiny red wall, the day would last from 6:00-18:00, evrytime lunch was ready my wife would ring a bell for me to come, all my kids would follow my path, we would spend the day together, i had many friends I spent time with, I can still remembre the smell of that fresh old milk, and my entire familly was close. Here in the town things are different. Now my day goes from 9:00-20:00, I have still not met my neighbors, my house is much smaller, my work is not as compensating as I thought, and there are crowds of people on the streets. I miss my old sweet home.

3) 1. There were difference in work hours

2. The people did not have as much affinity with their neighbors

3. Houses were not as big

4. air was not so fresh

5. more job options

6. more power of buying

7. People need more responsibility in greater cities

8. not so many people in smaller town

9. not many problems with urban growth in greater cities

10. Slavery could still be happening in a smaller town

11. Not so much poverty and abuse in smaller towns

12. sanitation would differ from place to place

Tenaments

street-arabs-in-sleeping-quarters-iThe life i heard of America is not so great. For in shame I live and not alone. The streets of gold are no more. I fear what is still to come, for the future is dark. And yet I have managed to forget what it was like to be in my native land. There are fears on the steets and hard labor for those who are new. If I knew what I would come to be, I would not have come in first place.

Using Timelines

When we read we do not have a visual help of how it would be like with time. We could think that someone was alive but that person could have already died or maybe he/she would maybe not even have been born yet when a certain event happened. The timeline, then, helps us with this. It shows us and helps us to visualize events and to see how things would be like they were. We could maybe think ” Why did that person not interfere with that war?”, but actually that person was dead. So the timeline shows you how to not commit these mistakes and helps you with that.
